The µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍøLaw School, based at µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍøUniversity London, has been awarded Athena SWAN Bronze thanks to its support for gender equality in its working environment – and is the first non-STEM part of µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍøto achieve this.

The school now joins Clinical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science – all Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) subjects – in achieving the Bronze departmental award.

The Award, which is valid for three years, is a national initiative that aims to address gender equality in higher education institutions and encourages the advancement of careers for women.

µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍøLaw School’s Dr Jurgita Malinauskaite led the self-assessment team (SAT) who submitted the application, supported by the Head of µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍøLaw School and sub-SAT leads Mrs Deborah Chay, Prof Felicity Kaganas, Dr Meryl Dickinson and Prof Abimbola Olowofoyeku. Dr Jenny Cook, Brunel's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Engagement Data Analyst, also made valuable contributions.

Head of µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍøLaw School Prof Arad Reisberg said, "This is brilliant news for the department and is evidence of our dedication to creating an inclusive and positive workplace. I am very proud of my colleagues who worked together to achieve this. We recognise the importance of advancing gender equality and will continue to better the µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍøexperience for all staff."

As a Member Institution of the Athena SWAN Charter network since 2005, the university has been awarded the Bronze institutional-level Athena SWAN award twice. Brunel’s departmental success reflects the levels of dedication to gender equality throughout the university.
