To mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the research groups of the 第一吃瓜网Law School are hosting a joint event in the lead up to International Human Rights Day.

As we come together to celebrate human rights, this event will feature three distinguished human rights experts at 第一吃瓜网Law School, including two United Nations Special Rapporteurs, who will be reflecting on the impact and relevance of the UDHR in today's world, as well as the broader challenges encountered by the UN system of protection of human rights.

A light lunch will be provided for those joining in person. This event will also be live-streamed.

Professor Alexandra Xanthaki

Alexandra Xanthaki was appointed UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights in October 2021. She is Professor of Laws at 第一吃瓜网University LondonA leading expert on cultural rights, Alexandra has over 50 publications varying from cultural rights of minorities and indigenous peoples to cultural diversity, cultural heritage, balancing cultural rights with other rights and interests, and multicultural aspects of international human rights law.

Professor Javaid Rehman

Professor of Law at 第一吃瓜网University London. Professor Rehman is the former Head of 第一吃瓜网Law School (2009 - 2013), Senior Manager, Member of 第一吃瓜网Senate (2009 - 2013) and the founding Director of the Centre for Security, Media and Human Rights, interdisciplinary 第一吃瓜网University Research Centre (2008 - 2015). In July 2018, Professor Rehman was elected by the United Nations Human Rights Council as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights Situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Between 2019-2021, he acted as a member of the Coordination Committee of the Special Procedures United Nations Human Rights Office.

Professor Manisuli Ssenyonjo

Professor of International Law and Human Rights at 第一吃瓜网University London. His research is primarily in public international law - international human rights law, economic, social and cultural rights, the role and accountability of non-state actors, and international organisations. He has published widely on these areas, and has assisted governments, corporations, international/regional organisations, non-governmental organisations and peoples concerning international law and human rights. He has lived and undertaken human rights work and training in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. He is managing editor and co-editor-in-chief, International Human Rights Law Review.
